About Schuttrange
The commune of Schuttrange is located on the outskirts of the capital of Luxembourg and is made up of 5 localities (Schuttrange, Munsbach, Uebersyren, Schrassig and Neuhaeusgen). It has a village-like character, surrounded by fields and forests, as well as major road and rail links, with the A1 motorway to Trier to the north and a railway line disserving the commune. The public administration of the commune provides public services to its citizens and is responsible for the public buildings.
Twinning in Schuttrange
In the green and
digital transition, local and regional public authorities face increasingly
complex decision-making environment in territorial planning. Local Digital Twins (LDTs) which are created within this project can visualize, analyse and
simulate territories or building stocks in a way that could not be done before.
The collected data in Schuttrange is leading to data-based decisions on local
or regional level which in the end leads to a more sustainable territory.
In order to set up our digital twins, the approach of Schuttrange is to combine data from many different data sources that already exist. The data is collected via a multitude of different interfaces and sent to a common database. This is the base for data mining which can include live data visualisation, automated actions or chart generation. Data stored in the database shall also be available in existing systems like their energy monitoring system, 3D model of the territory or as graphics on their webpage.
Effective use of data and technologies
The commune tries to develop
simple small programs which can connect to a multitude of systems which are
commonly used also in many other communes, like KNX, “Smarty” Energy counters
(used in every building in Luxembourg), Shelly, LoraWan. This way it will be
easy for other communes to establish similar systems without having to invest
large amounts of money or work power. If the data can be used to add
functionality in already existing systems, it will also be easy to get people
to use the digital twin as it is not yet another product to learn.
Pilot action
Pilot actions in
Schuttrange should lead to a better understanding of our territory and their building stock. The collected data stocked for now in different systems should
be combined to automatise different processes. The final goal is to build a
solid database leading to data-based decisions which in the end save energy,
water and, in general, resources in order to become more resilient and
sustainable.
